چکیده

The coupling mechanism for an existing viscous-inviscid-interaction (VII) code, developed for the analysis of two-dimensional, turbulent, attached ow around airfoils, is enhanced using the parallel direct search (PDS) optimization algorithm. It is demonstrated that this parallel processing implemented optimization scheme leads to faster convergence of the VII code, and therefore requires less computational time when the number of optimization (or design) variables is low, and a moderate number of processors are available. As the number of design variables increases more processors are required to maintain this advantage. Results are presented for the NACA-0012 and the RAE-2822 airfoils. The quality of the results obtained is satisfactory and connrms that the enhanced VII code can be an acceptable alternative to reduced Navier-Stokes solvers as an airfoil analysis tool.

Simulation of Pitching and Heaving Airfoil with Oscillation of Flow Boundary Condition

A pressure based implicit procedure to solve the Euler and Navier-Stokes equation is developed to predict transonic viscous and inviscid flows around the pitching and heaving airfoils with a high reslution scheme. In this process, nonorthogonal and non moving mesh with collocated finite volume formulation are used. In order to simulate pitching or heaving airfoil, oscillation of flow boundary c...

A Composite Finite Difference Scheme for Subsonic Transonic Flows (RESEARCH NOTE).

This paper presents a simple and computationally-efficient algorithm for solving steady two-dimensional subsonic and transonic compressible flow over an airfoil. This work uses an interactive viscous-inviscid solution by incorporating the viscous effects in a thin shear-layer. Boundary-layer approximation reduces the Navier-Stokes equations to a parabolic set of coupled, non-linear partial diff...

Viscous effects on the Rayleigh-Taylor instability with background temperature gradient

The growth rate of the compressible Rayleigh-Taylor instability is studied in the presence of a background temperature gradient, Θ, using a normal mode analysis. The effect of Θ variation is examined for three interface types corresponding to combinations of the viscous properties of the fluids (inviscid-inviscid, viscous-viscous and viscous-inviscid) at different Atwood numbers, At, and, when ...

Quasi-Simultaneous Viscous-Inviscid Interaction for Transonic Airfoil Flow

Following Prandtl, a viscous-inviscid interaction (VII) method is presented, where the flow field is divided into a viscous shear layer and an inviscid outer region. Their coupling is performed with the quasi-simultaneous approach, making use of an appropriately chosen interaction law. Firstly, an engineering example of transonic airfoil flow is presented, in which the interaction law is based ...

Viscous and Inviscid Stability of Multidimensional Planar Shock Fronts

We explore the relation between viscous and inviscid stability of multi-dimensional shock fronts, by studying the Evans function associated with the viscous shock proole. Our main result, generalizing earlier one-dimensional calculations, is that the Evans function reduces in the long-wave limit to the Kreiss{Sakamoto{ Lopatinski determinant obtained by Majda in the inviscid case, multiplied by...
